Our Story: 2010-2011 (Our Fourth Year)

September 2010

The fourth year of the OrKidstra and KidSingers programs got under way and the registration process now runs like a well-oiled machine!  All 150 OrKidstra and KidSingers class spots at the Bronson Centre are filled and we have reached capacity for holding classes at that location.

October 2010

Our first satellite project was started at York Street School where a number of younger students (5-8 years old) are having great fun singing, playing recorder and using percussion instruments.  The new program was christened "KiddlyWinks".

The KidSingers performed on Parliament Hill at the installation ceremony of the new Governor General, David Johnston.  The Governor General and his wife made a huge fuss over the kids at the dress rehearsal the evening before.

November 2010

Ontario Trillium Foundation representative, Frank Dyson, and Yasir Naqvi, MPP for Ottawa Centre, visited the Bronson Centre as part of a week which recognized the Trillium Foundation's expanding community-based music programs in Ottawa.  The OrKidstra and KidSingers gave a brief concert and Mr. Dyson presented the Foundation with a plaque.

The KidSingers' Chamber choir performed in the Senate in celebration of National Child's Day.

The CTV program, Regional Contact, made a 10-minute feature on the OrKidstra and KidSingers programs.  It was aired on December 11.

December 2010

The first ever KiddlyWinks concert took place at York Street School in front of a very enthusiastic audience.

The KidSingers performed as part of the FanFair concert with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in the lobby of the NAC.

Our annual Christmas concert took place on Saturday, December 18 and was a huge success.  The OrKidstra and KidSingers are sounding better all the time!
